Target Market: Males from 20 to 40 years, who enjoy a premium quality beer
This client was an Australian based microbrewery releasing a specialty craft beer into the market; they were in need of a logotype and packaging design to stand out amongst the competition.
A traditional Japanese recipe has been handed down through generations of bee keepers and is now being shared with Australia. Key visual factors to be communicated were: premium, Japanese, handmade and honey.
A masculine feel with serious visual undertones has been communicated through the colour choices and visual strength of the logotype. The logotype design and support graphic have been based on Japanese paper door framework to hint at the heritage. The use of strong verticals paired with purposeful horizontal lines and sharp terminals, shows this beer means business. The support graphic also carries the honey and handmade visuals through its hexagonal shape and textural overlay.
Retail Identity + Website Design
Target Market Women 50 to 70 with disposable income wishing to buy organic products without the lack of quality
Sarah Duvous is a small artisan soap company based on traditional botanic recipes. The brand is moving forward from market stalls into the online world and requires a visual identity system to bring the products to a wider range of customers.
A unique, clean wordmark has been created to show the ‘old fashioned’ roots in a modern stylish way, through the use of a modernised serif. This support graphic was created by blowing bubbles on to paper to produce an original pattern, visually portraying the organic ingredients. They were then overlaid on one another digitally to show the combination element. This identity was applied to a responsive website design. The UX and UI needed to be tailored around the target age range, keeping the design clean, simple and to the point. There was no need for fancy flyovers or animations.
The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe
Classic Book Cover Design
Target Market: Young emerging book lovers
Penguin Books has commissioned a series of emerging designers to create contemporary, iconic cover designs of some ‘classics’, to visually entice a generation of younger readers.
Subtle tells have been included in this design to ensure its simplicity. ‘The Lion’ has been recreated as a contemporary flat graphic to sit with current illustration trends, as this will draw attention. Victorian undertones portray ‘the Wardrobe’ by using shapes and textures from the era; while ‘the Witch’ is hidden through details of colour and type choice.
Feel free to judge this book by its cover.
Industry Application Design
Target Market Graphic design students worldwide
Graphic design students often have a gap in their knowledge of their forebears. To fill this need, the mobile application is a directory of information about all of the greats and currents.
Surveys were undertaken to get a feel for what visuals current students are attracted to in application design. This feedback helped with the initial skeleton of the application. An everyday notepad was the visual motif behind the design, as this is where you write down everything while you learn. Along with its simplistic design and neutral colour palette, it will help new designers get interested in exploring the world they are emerging into.
